Custard Cream fans, brace yourselves. M&S is expanding its much-loved biscuit range with a brand-new Custard Cream Spread, landing in stores on 9 September.
The humble custard cream has been having a major moment this year, and it’s not hard to see why – this much-beloved tea-time snack combines those comforting flavours of crisp, lightly spiced biscuits and a sweet vanilla cream centre, bringing back memories of after-school snacks and grandparents’ biscuit tins. It seems only natural that this retro treat is now being recreated in bigger, more imaginative formats to satisfy those mid-afternoon cravings.
Marks & Spencer has catapulted this trend with a string of highly popular launches, from the viral Giant Outrageously Chocolatey Milk Coated Custard Cream to the more recent Chunked N’ Loaded Custard Cream Cookie and Dunked N’ Loaded Custard Cream Doughnut.
The new Custard Cream spread is priced at £2.50 for a 400g jar, although this may vary across retailers. The indulgently silky spread is packed with the familiar flavours of the classic British biscuit, combining mellow vanilla custard notes with crunchy biscuit pieces. In other words, it’s the taste of a tea-break favourite, transformed into something you can eat with a spoon – almost dangerously easy.
According to M&S, the spread is ideal swirled over toast, drizzled onto pancakes, spooned over warm croissants or simply enjoyed straight from the jar – we wouldn’t judge. We’re also imagining it melted over waffles or toasted crumpets, layered onto a no-bake cheesecake or dolloped onto an ice cream sundae. Ardent fans could even enjoy it spread onto a Custard Cream – the possibilities are endless! Given the huge success of Lotus Biscoff spread, we can see this one catching on too, so it’s worth getting in on it early after the launch next Wednesday.
