LENA, Wis. (WBAY) – Fitness gets a whole new meaning on a dairy farm.
For the fourth year, Fitness on the Farm is bringing people to Alsteen Farms in Lena, Wisconsin, for what organizer Carolyn Alsteen calls a “fun obstacle course throughout the farm,” complete with farm-themed workout stations, a yogurt bar and an optional farm tour.
“It is happening tomorrow. Registration starts at 8. The race will start at 8:30. It’s take it at your own pace, at your own skill level,” said Carolyn Alsteen, co-owner of Alsteen Farms.
Participants move across the property doing activities inspired by farm work, including lifting 50-pound milk replacer bags, pushing wheelbarrows, farmer carries with pails of grain and tire flips.
“You’re going to be climbing up and down tractors… going to pick rocks, tire flips, throws, gate carries… all while going through the farm and working out with the cows,” Alsteen said.
Alsteen said the event is designed to show that fitness can happen anywhere, while also helping people connect with agriculture and dairy.
“What I hope people get is just being closer to agriculture and dairy in general, I want people to feel more connected to agriculture than they ever have. I want people to be able to be like, hey, I know a farmer. I’ve been to a farm. I know what they’re doing,” she said.
Alsteen added the event is meant to be enjoyable. “And it’s fun,” she said.
Online signups are still available, and Alsteen said people can also register the day of the event.
