Euclid’s Recreation and Wellness Center, 22550 Milton Ave., will be open by mid-June as workers are already adding the finishing touches to the new space.
Recreation Director Mac Stephens said during an interview earlier this month that he was holding off on having public tours because he felt the center was still not at a point where visitors could fully get a grasp of what the finished product would look like but that the public will get a chance to see it before it officially opens.
He added they were putting in furniture and equipment by the end of May and that things will quickly come together once they get closer to finishing.
“My goal was to start the tours in May, but they still have to paint the mural in the lobby and the gymnasium, the wall padding in the gymnasium needs to be installed,” Stephens said. “I don’t want to actually start the tours until the public can see what it looks like on a full scale.”
He said they would ideally start tours during the second week of June and that people will be able to sign up online or by contacting the recreation department directly.

He added that they were actually going to start hosting summer camps in the facility a little bit earlier because they were using a finished area to run them as opposed to before when they would operate out of the ice skating arena.
“Then we would offer memberships and do a grand opening event and really let people walk through it and kind of experience the different spaces before they decide if they want to get a membership,” Stephens said. “In fact, our summer camp will start… at the Recreation and Wellness Center while they are putting up the finishing touches.
“For a number of years, we had the summer camp in the ice arena which during the summer time is not the ideal location. I just think after a $10 million investment has been made let’s get the kids in there so they can take advantage of it.”
