Thornton Academy’s brand new Miles Field House is almost complete! An open house for the $14.5 million privately-funded facility is this Saturday. Then it’s game on for the Golden Trojans!
“We’re just really excited about the opportunities this is going to provide for our students and student athletes,” Thornton Academy Headmaster Rene Menard said.
Menard says the new Miles Field House will benefit student athletes in a variety of ways.
“I thinks it’s going to really provide a lot of opportunities, get more students involved not just in athletics competitive athletics but things like intramural programs and our wellness curriculum,” Menard continued.
The facility features three full-size basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts, three 55-meter sprint lanes, a 200-meter mezzanine track, and a state-of-the-art weight room.
“It’s exciting, and I think it just demonstrates our commitment to our students,” Menard said.
And the students definitely like what they see!
“I honestly just saw it today, and I’m really excited to be able to play in it. It’s huge,” Brooke Bodnar said.
“It pushes everyone to work harder, with all the banners and TA spirit in here. It’s just like the name on the jersey just means a lot more,” Brooklyn Desrochers said.
The new field house replaces Linnell Gymnasium, although the 63-year-old building will remain a vital part of the school’s athletic program!
“It’s a great old space. Were gonna put it to good use,” Menard said.
Thornton Academy has had plenty of success both on and off the field, and although winning is nice, it’s not everything!
“It’s about building character, it’s about commitment, it’s about building teamwork and sacrifice, and sometimes you learn as much from losing as you do from winning!” Rene Menard.
