Family Health and Fitness Day is June 8th 2026. It’s a time for families to get active together and build healthy habits as a family. Dr.Luca Delatore with The Ohio State University Department of Emergency Medicine joined Good Day Columbus to share why this is important.
WHY IT MATTERS
Regular activity helps prevent heart disease, diabetes, and obesity
Physical activity improves mood, sleep, and energy
Healthy habits are more likely to last when families do them together

SIMPLE WAYS TO BE ACTIVE AS A FAMILY
Take a walk after dinner
Ride bikes together
Visit a local park or playground
Play sports such as soccer, basketball, or frisbee
Plan a family hike or nature walk
Do a short home workout or stretching routine
Create a fun scavenger hunt or obstacle course

Move more
Aim for daily physical activity
Even 10 to 15 minutes at a time is helpful
Eat better
Choose fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins
Drink water instead of sugary drinks
