Hosted by the NYC Department for the Aging, the event is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants from across the five boroughs for group workouts, line dancing and performances centered on healthy aging and community engagement. This year’s theme, “Move a Little… Live a Lot! Dance Through the Decades,” will bring music and movement to Foley Square as…
SafeSplash explains its highly lucrative, pluggable program that sets partners up for sustainable success An empty swimming pool doesn’t just mean fewer cannonballs and quieter summers. It’s lost membership revenue, low ROI on space and a missed opportunity to connect with consumers all year round. SafeSplash, the largest U.S. network of swim schools for children and adults, knows the challenges firsthand. “Operators across the country tell us pools have quietly become some of the most expensive square footage in their facilities,” said Chris Harkness, president of SafeSplash. “They require significant investment to heat, maintain and staff, yet many are still…
Gelita has introduced Curaderm, a new bioactive collagen peptide to support skin healing, atopic-prone skin, and gum health. The company says it is the first collagen peptide with scientifically substantiated results that promise evidence-based positioning for skin and gum care concepts. Curaderm is designed to support the structural integrity of barrier tissues. According to Gelita, it strengthens the body’s natural defense and repair systems from within by promoting collagen production and extracellular matrix formation. Martin Walter, category manager Healthy Aging and Sports Nutrition, tells Nutrition Insight the solution tackles “the serious side of skin care.”“We’re looking into skin barrier function, and that…

Listen to article • 0:00 minThe first weeks after Katie Corr gave birth to her second child were a blur of day and night, feedings and diaper changes. She felt unmoored. “Outside of naps, you don’t have anything anchoring your schedule,” said the 37-year-old Havertown mom. She had joined a new maternal wellness group at her local YMCA in Haverford when she was pregnant, and the group of women continued to meet once a week after they had all given birth. Children could come along to the sessions or be dropped off at the Y’s in-house childcare center while the women…

A South Korean animal study has uncovered how the gut directs the brain to seek out essential nutrients and detects protein deficiency. It discovered a gut-brain signaling system that quickly changes feeding behavior through coordinated neuronal and hormonal pathways. The authors state that, although animals are known to seek out foods rich in protein, the biological mechanisms linking nutrient deficiency to selective feeding behavior are not well understood. The findings demonstrate that animals do not simply eat more when nutrients are lacking, but that the brain selectively adjusts the eating priorities to seek out and favor the nutrients that are deficient. The study…
The world is full of people fierce in the belief that they know the right diet to make your children glow with superior health. Few are shy about saying so. Fortunately, I’m here to help. I happen to know exactly what should go into your mouth, and into theirs, and, although you haven’t asked, I’m happy to tell you. My confidence comes from the psychology department at Durham University, which has just published the results of a long-running experiment on getting children to eat their greens.
